Day 12: Riding with the River Sutlej

Day 12: Kaza to Kalpa

We were riding on amiable winding roads, with mountains on one side and the wobbly and rock-filled Sutlej River on the other. Stealing a glance at the river while riding would deflect our bikes onto the edge every now and then. Scared the hell out of us, I’d say.

The Sutlej is notorious for sucking in swimmers and non-swimmers due to its rocky content. Its grey water seemed grotesque after all the green and blue water bodies we had come across during our journey. We reached Kalpa, and the fantabulous view of the Kinner Kailash mountain refreshed us. The evening snack was onion-pakodas in the accompaniment of a mug of tea and our hotel was on the mountain top. Kalpa is a beautiful place with a considerable number of tourists added to the hotel clientele. There was some moisture in the air, which was fresh and breezy.
